      • Location: TBD
* Some of the ideas we have for the family picnic include water balloons, a pinochle tournament, horseshoes, Kan-Jam, Volleyball, Softball, Kickball, etc. Uncle Al is going to make the reservations for the park for us. We would definitely like to have a photo collage of everyone’s baby picture to have a sort of “guess the baby”. We also would like for everyone to bring any old photos they have (whether it be from 60 years ago, or 15 years ago) as well as their wedding albums, It will be great to share in the memories! As a group we would like to purchase the meats (Hot Dogs & Hamburgers for a late lunch, then possibly Chicken & Ribs for dinner??) as well as the paper supplies and condiments. We would like to ask that each family bring a dish to pass. As we get closer we can work on a sign up sheet. Remember, if all family members are in attendance, that is about 75 people we are accounting for! Paula is going to work on getting T-Shirts made for the event.

** We have a few options when it comes to brunch on Sunday, depending on what type of budget we would all agree on. A few of the options that we have discussed are going out for brunch at a restaurant such as Ripa’s, The Columns, Salvatores, or The Millenium. Uncle Jerry and Aunt Chris have also volunteered to host brunch at their house, keeping the costs down and for everyone to have a place to “hang out” after brunch and still socialize, or make plans with each other for afternoon activities.

Leaving you with a few picture of our great family!

A very thankful Thanksgiving

So I know it's a week early, but I am very thankful this year!

Thankful for my family, both near and far, we truly are an awesome bunch and I'm so greatful to be a part of it!

Thankful for being introduced to Dave Ramsey~what a difference we've seen in our lives, and in our quest to becoming debt free! (BTW~we have $1000 in the bank and have paid off almost $4000 in bills!)

Thankful for Kornowicz Catering~I don't think that I would be who I am today if it wasn't for being a part of it~and all the great memories that go with it!

Thankful for being unemployed~yes, I know that seems very odd, but at this point in time-things are going extremely well and being unemployed has made both of us take less things for granted and appreciate what we have, and reprioritize what we need versus what we want.

Finally,I'm thankful for patience~although we have no baby news yet, and it seems like this past year has been like forever, I know that God has a bigger plan for us right now~so patience it is!

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!
Love
~Vicki~

Catering Memories

I am sure that we all have many memories of the Catering Business. I was blessed to be able to work for my parents who ran Reiman Hall and also for Grandma & Dzia who ran Kornowicz Catering. Chris & I used to work most weekends at catering...in addition to our day jobs. Thanks Grandma & Dzia for starting this business and putting the love of cooking in all of us. Thanks Uncle Jerry & Aunt Chris for keeping Kornowicz Catering alive for this long. May you have a Happy Retirement...can you ever retire from this business. To this day I love to cook and entertain...the larger the group the better.
Steakrolls were a favorite in my house. I am not sure who invented them but the White's enjoy them...well most of us.

Chris, Joe and Uncle Allen were on there way to a party one Saturday afternoon...driving Big Blue to Weber Post in Lackawana from Gorski St. While rounding the corner the back doors flew open and yep you guessed it the wagon of meat and a pot of cabbage flew out the door. Sounds like something from the movies. They pulled the truck over to access the situation and did what any good person would do. Scooped up the cabbage from the street back into the pot and put the steakrolls back in the roaster...arrived at Weber Post with closed lips. The food was served and the kitchen got rave reviews that night. Only later while enjoying Pizza, wings and beer on Gorski St was the truth revealed. Oh the memories.

The End of an Era

My entire life I remember going to Grama K's during the summer and sneaking "next door" to where my mom was working and taste the food...mmmm! In November, Uncle Jerry and Aunt Chris are retiring and the family business ~Kornowicz Catering~ will cease operations. I helped out at one of the last parties last night, and it was rather bittersweet. As usual, it was chaotic, crazy, messy, organized and planned, -and peaceful. As much as there are crazy things going on and it gets insane, I found a wave of peace, maybe it was Gramma & Grandpa looking down. The food was fabulous, as usual-pork chops and chicken cordon bleu, kapusta, green beans, and twice baked potatoes. If you have some memories, please share them! This has touched each one of us in one way or another~and Gramma and Grandpa would be so proud!

I would like to send out a postcard survey or maybe an email to everyone asking which weekend would be the best. Obviously I'm sure that there will be some conflicts, so I will try to go with the one that has the most votes, hopefully sometime in July or maybe early August.

Dad's surprising surgery

UPDATE FROM THE NOWAK HOUSE:

On Monday, My dad and I celebrated my 25th birthday and his 25th anniversary of his 33rd birthday (I was born on his 33rd birthday). He felt kinda out of it afterward, but didn't really make a big deal of it. So last night about 6 my mom took my dad over to the Immediate Care center. He hadn't been feeling well since the night before and was a little concerned~for my dad to go to the ER, or any similar place, that's a big deal~he never gets sick and hates being down. So after blood work and a cat scan~he needed his appendix out ASAP! The doctors wanted him to go by ambulance to Mercy Hospital, but for those of you who know my dad~he of course insisted on having my mom drive him~I'm surprised he even let her drive~that's really not like him. So by 10pm he was in surgery, and by 11pm he was resting in a room upstairs. We went up to see him, but he was really groggy~so we all went home to get some rest. We will keep you posted~so far, he's doing great~the doctors said surgery went well and he only has two tiny incisions(it was a laproscopic surgery). My mom did take his clothes home from the hospital though so that he couldn't try and sneak out~I'm sure he's already trying to escape~

College Graduation Celebration!

Two weeks ago, my little sister Liz graduated from the University At Buffalo (UB) with her bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering. She was very nervous in the weeks before because there was a fear that she would not pass 1 class. ~Well, she did it! here are the pictures from her graduation for all that didn't get to be there~enjoy!
All in all it was a wonderful day. It makes me realize how fast time goes by. Liz and my brother-in-law Bill both graduated college this year~they graduated high school the year Dan and I got married (2005). I am so very thankful for what a wonderful family I have. Although we are not perfect-in fact very far from it-we are there for each other through thick and thin.
Im praying today for life in general~For Frank's girlfriend Amanda, that she may recover quickly and fight for her well being~For Dan's grandparents, who are getting older, and cannot take care of themselves anymore, but are fighting the family on moving into senior housing~For all of my family, that we may have the most wonderful family reunion next year and get to share in all of the things that have happened over the past 20 or so years~and for Dan and I~that we may come to terms with the struggles of trying to conceive~it's been about 8 months and no luck!
God Bless our Family and have a great weekend!
Love Always,
~Vicki~

Chocolate Chip Cookies and Spring Blossoms!

What a great Friday! I am off today because of a new rotating weekend schedule at work (so yes, I have to work tomorrow, but only 10 to 4)...So I decided to once again try and make chocolate chip cookies (see my facebook for full details)..here's how they came out!

So that was last night (and lucy managed to steal some overnight and has been puking every since) But on a brighter note, It is gorgeous here in South Buffalo...I have all the windows open, and am cleaning (yes..I'm an OCD Neat Freak)..but thought I would share some pictures of my garden and the great Crocuses that are in bloom!

Happy Friday and Have a Great Weekend! Love You all!

Wedding Picture

Here is the picture that I have of Grandma & Dziadzie's wedding. In the picture is: Francis Henry Kornowicz, Irene Rita Gorski, and Florence Koszuta. Neither my mom nor Aunt Shirley knew who the other man was in the picture. It was taken on their wedding day, June 19, 1935. Next year, it would have been their 75th anniversary.

Pictures of Grandma & DziaDzie

Hi Again!

Hope everyone is having a great friday! Since I am a member of the younger Kornowicz cousins it seems that I don't have that much in the way of picture of grandma and Dzia. Since Dzia died before I was born and never got to meet what a great grandfather i'm sure he was, I am trying to put together a nice photo album of pictures of them, and all of us for the family reunion. I was given Grandma & DziaDzie's wedding photo by my "aunt" Shirley Lafferty and I found mixed in with all of my other pictures a small one of them at Coney Island. I am going to attempt to try and get those two on here when I get home from work today(I have yet to leave to go to work!) I was hoping that if any of you have any pictures of them or with them that you would like to share online! I'm also finishing up our family tree from Grandma and Dzia on down to us, since my mom has most of Grandma & Dzia back to when family came from Poland on a boat. But if you have any other information that I don't have-such as new family additions full names and birthdates I would greatly appreciate it.
Lots of Love!

FAMILY REUNION 2010

Hi my wonderful family!
As we are in the beginning stages of planning our Kornowicz Family 2010 reunion I would like to ask all to suggest what they would like for the dates of our event. I am proposing July 10, 2010 for the reunion. Friday night we would like to have an adult only get together at a local bar or other great venue. Saturday will be the actual entire family reunion, and Sunday we would like to all go to church as a family and possibly do a brunch. Let me know what you think!
Thanks
Vicki

An Exciting Valentines Day

HI Guys! So I finally got this all figured out-Fran, you are the best! Glad to hear you are feeling better. Dan and I have had a very exciting February. We went out for dinner for valentines day, figuring that we would do just something small since we're going to Bar Harbor ME in July and would like to take a little more spending money then. Well, Sunday morning I got up to let Lucy(our dog) outside and I heard water gushing coming from the basement. So I ran down the stairs and I had a small river in my basement-thank gosh it's an old South Buffalo house and the basements aren't that great to begin with! So I ran back up two flights of stairs and woke Dan up. Needless to say, we went and got each other a Tankless water heater for valentines day! Hope everyone had a wonderful week and can't wait to hear from all of you!
